Celebration / Meet & Greet / Pizza Party
Thursday Nov. 13 from 6pm-7:30pm
Rich South High School / 5000 Sauk Trail / Richton Park, IL
Homewood Science Center is excited to debut Girls STEAM Ahead Success! Rich Township High School District 227 and Homewood Science Center are partnering for the 2019-2020 academic year on this exclusive new program, which will run November-May.
Specially selected students will meet one school period per month to practice setting and meeting goals; develop skills like communication, teamwork, and leadership; and learn about jobs in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). During the program, students will work on individual goals at home and at school, participate in hands-on STEAM activities, be introduced to education and career paths in STEAM, and exercise skills that are essential to success in school, work, and life.
Please join us Wednesday, November 13, 2019, for a meeting for parents and students from 6:00pm-7:30pm at the Rich South Auditorium . Please enter through door T1. Pizza will be served at this kick-off celebration, at which Homewood Science Center representatives will explain Girls STEAM Ahead SUCCESS and answer questions. Come meet Dr. Andrea Brown-Thirston, co-author of Understanding Teenage Girls: Culture, Identity, and Schooling, who will be leading the program!
Women in STEAM careers will be on hand to talk about why STEAM is important and how they’ve achieved success. Share your experience and the path leading to your success with girls in our program. We know that hands-on learning is powerful, so you are welcome to have an outreach table and bring items from your work that students can touch, try on, manipulate, or experiment with. Your involvement is critical and much appreciated. This is your opportunity to inspire girls to take an interest in your STEAM education or career path!
